A Journey from Club to Pro Car Racing

Getting started in racing is daunting, to say the least. It sounds easy, but it is very difficult to figure out where to even begin the journey. Each race car series requires a separate license on a yearly basis. And there are many potential race series to join at all levels in racing.

The hallmarks of club racing are limited budgets, a wide range of driving experience, and lots of fun. Race weekends are are often more like family events and the competition is usually friendly. These venues provide an opportunity for family and friends to gather and enjoy a weekend of friendly racing.

Competition at this level is intense compared to club racing as most of the drivers are young and building a career. Teams generally have an experienced crew and professional equipment. The Fran-Am series was the second semi-pro series we raced. These races began with a "standing start" and included venues such as F1 support races and street races.

Racing in a professional series, such as the Grand American series, is a very different experience from the other levels of racing. The drivers are very experienced, the race teams are well seasoned, and most importantly there is a lot of money on the line. However, drivers still don't always make the best decisions when racing.
